FAQs
Can my provider prescribe medications?
Sarah Fedak is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner nationally board certified and licensed in Texas to prescribe medications. She will work with you closely to find a medications that works best with the least side effects.
Can my provider give psychotherapy?
As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Sarah has been trained on different modalities of psychotherapy. Supportive psychotherapy will be provided for patients on medications management as an adjunct treatment. This therapy helps to increase self esteem and emotional distress through active listening and validation. If it is determined a more specific type of psychotherapy is needed, Sarah can provide referrals to an appropriate provider.
Can I just take medications for my emotional distress?
Medication management alone has been known to improve psychiatric conditions and in some cases cause total remission for patients with psychiatric disorders. Since psychiatric disorders can be complicated, it is recommended at the very least to receive adjunct supportive psychotherapy. During Sarah’s doctorate research project she conducted a case study on a group of patients who received medication management only for depression and medication management and supportive therapy together. She found that patients receiving medication management and supportive psychotherapy received quicker improvements in depressive symptoms and improved quality of live. Her research was back by numerous evidence based literature reviews that quantified medications and psychotherapy as the gold standard of psychiatric care.
